MachineToMachine (M2M) Type communication of 5G is still under development and it is based on LTE-M standards which are:
- eMTC (Cat-M1)
- Narrow Band iot (Cat- NB1).
To achieve low complexity and consequently a low-cost device, following simplification of LTE standard have been introduced:
- smaller bandwidth and power
- 1,08 MHz/180kHz (for eMTC/NB IoT respectively)
- up to 20 dBm of transmit power
- simplified transmission shame based on:
- single antenna (no MIMO!)
- 16QAM or QPSK modulation (for eMTC/NB IoT respectively)
- full or even half duplex in connection
- reduced peak rate to 1Mbps/170kbs (for eMTC/NB IoT respectively)
Thanks to the above simplifications of features the overall costs of UE devices could be reduced up to 20% for eMTC and 15% for NB IoT.
