What are 5G use cases:
1st and most intuitive — enhanced mobile broadband i.e. to enable:
- streaming 4k/8k videos,
- use of augmented and virtual reality,
- extensive mobile gaming and working.
2nd: fixed wireless access which is:
- replacing a core network replacing i.e. fiber,
- already serviced by providers,
- ideal for suburban and rural areas.
3rd is massive machine type communication ( MMTC) with:
- a large number of devices communicating with low data rate,
- infrequent and short transmission enabling long battery life,
- a good perspective of market development for coming years.
4th and most revolutionary is ultra-reliable low latency communication ( URLLC).
- examples: remote car/robot controlling or surgery conducting,
- still far away from real-life implementation.
As you can see, 5G stretches beyond mobile broadband access. New 5G use cases are challenging but fascinating.
