I think now it’s good to summarize the technical introduction to 5G technology gathered in posts and my blog and soon on Li too as articles. This 5G Summary is based on my private opinion.
Above all, it has obvious advantages over previous standards which are faster data exchange, bigger bandwidth utilization, and stronger signal power on the RX side (higher SNR). This is thanks to numerous mechanism that (in theory) makes it more flexible and robust. The engagement of big companies and new applications predicted in the standard makes it widely applicable.
However, it’s worth having in mind some drawbacks of technology. Because of its complexity, implementation of the standard might be susceptible to malfunctions and more cumbersome to use. This might end up with higher costs of development both for user equipment and service providers. And even though there are mechanisms for battery power savings, this might not be enough for fast data exchange.
To sum up, 5G technology is undoubtedly the future of mobile communication. The above drawback will probably be mitigated. After the initial testing phase the solutions will become reliable and thanks to economy of scale they will become affordable too. I’m also sure that the battery will just become bigger and the power won’t be a problem too.
So let’s hope that thanks to 5G our surroundings will become a real internet of things world.
